South Korean company Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) continues to work on the multipurpose fighter KF-21 Boramae. On the eve of the test flight, the prototype was able to reach supersonic speed for the first time.

Here's What We Know

The tests of the aircraft took place over the southern waters of Korea. The KF-21 prototype multirole fighter flew to an altitude of 12,000 meters and reached Mach 1 speed (343 mph, 1,234.5 km/h) for the first time. The test flight lasted 56 minutes.

KAI has already unveiled five prototypes of the KF-21 Boramae. The presentation of the last one was held at the end of November. The company plans to create another prototype of the fighter, which will be the last one. The cost of the development program will be $5.2 billion. 80% will be financed by South Korea, 20% of funds will be invested by Indonesia.

By the way, the fighter prototype announced in the fall is for Indonesia. However, it remains in South Korea, as Jakatra has not yet paid its share.
