Apple Watch and Siri smartwatch accidentally summoned 15 armed police officers to the gym, claiming a shooting

Thai boxing coach Jamie Alleyne from Sydney, Australia, told a funny story on social media that he got into because of his Apple Watch.

Jamie was doing a workout for his client that morning. Nothing foretold trouble as about 15 armed police officers burst into the gym and several ambulances remained outside. Law enforcement officers said they received a report of a shooting.

Most interestingly, the SOS signal came from Jamie's phone, even though he hadn't picked it up at all during practice.

Then the coach realized what had actually happened. Apparently, he had accidentally pressed a button on his Apple Watch during the class and thus turned on the Siri voice assistant. After a while, Jamie took the watch off his hand, but Siri didn't seem to turn off, "eavesdropping" on conversations.

During the workout, the man gave the client various commands, including repeating the phrase "1-1-2," which means a combination of punches. Siri also heard phrases like "good punch" and decided the user needed help. She called the emergency service 112, which is a kind of analogue of 911.

The operator thought there was a shooting or a suicide attempt at the gym and sent police and medics to the address.
