The German government has approved the supply of Leopard 2 tanks to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Here's What We Know

The information was published on the Bundeswehr's website. In the first stage, Ukraine will receive 14 tanks of the new Leopard 2A6 modification. In the near future, Germany will start a training programme for Ukrainian crews. Germany will also provide logistics, ammunition and maintenance for the vehicles. The country's government has also approved the re-export of the tanks. This means that other countries will soon be able to transfer their Leopard 2s to Ukraine.

The Leopard 2 is a main battle tank created by the German company Krauss-Maffei Wegmann. The Leopard 2 is the successor to the successful development of the Leopard 1. The Leopard 2 has many modifications and is used by the armed forces of Austria, Canada, Chile, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Greece, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, Switzerland, Sweden, Spain and Turkey. Totally 3,200 tanks of this model have been produced.
