Xiaomi fined $149,000 by bumper supplier for disseminating information about company's first electric car

Images of Xiaomi's first electric car have recently surfaced on the World Wide Web. The renderings were based on information obtained from a bumper supplier. It is now facing a hefty fine.

According to Reuters, Xiaomi has decided not to let the leaked information and the Chinese brand's debut electric car go unnoticed. The bumper supplier that allowed the leak will have to pay a fine of $149,000, ¥1 million.

Representatives of Xiaomi recommended the supplier of components to work on improving the protection of information. At the same time the Chinese manufacturer did not confirm the appearance of the car. Xiaomi claims that there are several design variants of the car. Moreover, the final version is not present in the leak.

The Beijing-based company announced its entry into the electric car market two years ago. Within a few years, Xiaomi will invest billions of dollars in this area. Production will be set up at a plant in the Chinese capital starting in the second half of 2024. Xiaomi wants to produce 300,000 electric cars annually.
