Germany asks Sweden to give Ukraine IRIS-T air defences and additional missiles

According to Bloomberg, Germany is asking Sweden to provide the Ukrainian Armed Forces with launchers that are compatible with the IRIS-T air defence system. In addition, Germany also wants Sweden to send additional missiles to Ukraine.

Unfortunately it is not known at what stage of the negotiations. By the way, according to journalists, Germany plans to keep its promise and transfer three additional IRIS-T SAMs to the AFU this year.

Flashback

IRIS-T is a medium-range surface-to-air missile system. It was developed by the German company Diehl Defence in 2014. The system is designed to destroy aircraft, helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles. IRIS-T is considered one of the most advanced air defence systems. Ukraine now has one battery of SAM systems in service.
