Never used, in a sealed box: the very first iPhone sold at auction for $50,000
Last October, a factory-packaged first-generation iPhone was sold at auction for $39,340. After hearing about it, American Karen Green found her smartphone among old things and wants to sell it for even more.
Here's What We Know
Karen put up for auction the first model of iPhone, which was released back in 2007. The smartphone is in its original packaging and has never been unsealed or used.
The phone was given to the woman in 2007 by friends after she got a managerial job at PetSmart. But at the time, she already had three devices with the Verizon mobile carrier. And since the original iPhone was only compatible with AT&T, Karen decided to put the gift on hold and never used it.
In 2019, $5,000 was offered for the smartphone, but the owner left it until better times. And now it is: the woman needs the finances for her business, and the price of the rare iPhone is more than attractive.
The auction house LCG Auctions plans to sell the lot for $ 50 thousand. For comparison, in 2007, the gadget cost $ 500. The auction began February 2 and will run until February 19.
