Apple beats Samsung in final quarter 2022 - Huawei suddenly boosts smartphone sales by 59.6%
Analyst companies continue to summarise the results of the past quarter before starting to summarise the entire year 2022. According to Omdia, from October to December inclusive, the smartphone market leader was Apple. The American company was once again ahead of everyone else over the festive period.
Here's What We Know
In the fourth quarter compared to the third, all the companies in the top 10 worsened their performance. With the exception of Apple It sold 74 million smartphones compared to 52 million, which helped it overtake Samsung and increase its share to 25%. On the other hand, year-on-year iPhone shipments fell by 13.3% to 85 million.
In 2nd position is Samsung. The South Korean manufacturer sold 58 million models, occupying 19% of the market. The shipments compared to the previous quarter fell by 8.8%, and compared to the last quarter of 2021 - by 15.4%.
Rounding out the bottom three is Xiaomi, which controls only 11% of the market, having shipped 33 million smartphones. This is 26.5% less than a year earlier and 18% less than the previous quarter.
On a year-on-year basis, OPPO and realme lost the most, 29.1% and 31.5% respectively. Huawei, on the other hand, unexpectedly increased its smartphone sales. And it did so by almost 60%. In the reporting period, it was able to supply 8 million devices and take 2% of the market.
A total of 302 million smartphones were sold between October and December. This is the level of the third quarter of 2022 (304 million units). Compared to the last quarter of 2021 (357 million units), shipments fell by 15.4%.
