Breaking Defense: Ukraine may receive Abrams tanks sooner than expected
At the end of January, the USA announced that it was going to deliver 31 M1 Abrams tanks to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Initially, they were expected to be handed over to Ukraine in late 2023, but now there is information that the USA is considering speeding up the process.
Here's What We Know
According to Breaking Defense, the US was planning to buy tanks for the AFU from industry through the USAI (Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative) program, but as it turns out, the final decision has not yet been made. Therefore, the country's government may take tanks from its own reserves under the PDA (Presidential Drawdown Authority) programme. If this option is approved, the Ukrainian Armed Forces will receive the weapons much sooner.
