Chinese scientists have created a ChatGPT counterpart. It was called MOSS, but it only lasted a few hours before it had to be shut down for good.

Here's What We Know

MOSS is powered by artificial intelligence algorithms. Local media called it a Chinese competitor to ChatGPT and noted that it understood English better than Chinese.

The chatbot became very popular. However, the resources at the disposal of scientists at Fudan University were not enough to ensure proper operation of the neural network in conditions of increased traffic. Because of the surge of users, the scientists had to shut down ChatGPT. Not only that, MOSS will never again be available for public use.

The engineers said that such systems are valuable to China, as evidenced by the high public interest in their generative model based on artificial intelligence. They admitted, however, that MOSS does not reach the level of the US-based ChatGPT, developed by Open AI.
