In addition to the Leopard 2, Poland also intends to supply Ukraine with PT-91 Twardy tanks.

Here's What We Know

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki told this during a press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on 24 February. We are talking about 60 tanks. Their deliveries will start in the next few days.

Flashback

The PT-91 Twardy is a Polish main battle tank, based on the Soviet T-72M1. The first PT-91 prototypes were made in 1993. The base version of the tank was serially produced at the Bumar-Labenda factory between 1995 and 2002. The main feature of the PT-91 is the Twardy protection using ERAWA's own active armour. It has 394 blocks. They cover the front of the hull and turret. These blocks are placed with little or no clearance to each other. Tests have shown that ERAWA blocks increase the tank's protection by 30-70%, depending on the type of projectile.
