In addition to the updated Bing search in the taskbar, Microsoft has also updated the Phone Link app in the latest Windows 11 build, which now lets you send iMessages using your iPhone.

Here's What We Know

The Phone Link app allows iPhone owners to connect their smartphones to a Windows PC to sync data, and as of yesterday, now also send messages via iMessage, as well as make and receive calls and view notifications directly on the PC.

But there are some limitations. Because it works via Bluetooth, you can't send images or participate in group chats. All chats from iMessage to your PC will be displayed in a simplified form.

"We send the messages back and forth via Bluetooth, Apple I think in turn sends those as iMessage once it gets onto their system,” explains Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft’s head of consumer marketing, in an interview with The Verge"

You won't be able to see your chat history either, as you'll only see messages that were sent using Phone Link. The app also won't use blue and green message bubbles, as it won't be able to distinguish where the message was sent from.

The updated version of Phone Link will be available to Windows Insider members in the Dev, Beta, and Release Preview channels later this week.
