Valve has enabled its own ray tracing in Steam Deck
Yes, it's finally happened - Steam Deck has received native support for ray tracing technology in games. Previously, if you wanted to enjoy this experience, you had to do some manipulations with the console's operating system. And I must say that for a device that costs less than RTX 3050, having ray tracing is really impressive.
Here's What We Know
Valve has announced a new Steam Deck OS beta in the preview channel, and it has updated the Mesa graphics driver to version 23, which sounds dry, but should actually fix some bugs in the latest Wo Long build: Fallen Dynasty, as well as several other projects. The update also enables ray tracing in Doom Eternal.
Doom Eternal isn't the last word in overblown ray tracing effects, but its implementation is a clever use of the technology to improve lighting and glare in the game. The game has no initial minimum system requirements to enable ray tracing, but at 1080p, players will need to have an RTX 2060, so the fact that the technology works on the device you're holding in your hands is nothing short of amazing.
