Ford will increase production of F-150 Lightning and Mustang Mach-E electric vehicles to 360,000 a year
Ford has announced plans to significantly increase production volumes of electric vehicles. By the end of 2023, three times as many F-150 pickups and twice as many Mustang Mach-E crossovers are expected to roll off the assembly line.
Here's What We Know
At the end of 2022, Ford became the second largest producer of electric vehicles from the US. The company sold 61,575 vehicles and was second only to Tesla. Right now, production and deliveries of the F-150 Lightning electric peaks are on pause due to battery issues, but Ford is optimistic about the future.
The US company has said that production of Mustang Mach-E electric crossovers will double from current levels to 210,000 by the end of 2023. As a percentage, production of the F-150 Lightning will increase even more, by 200%. The company wants to increase the volume to 150,000 electric pickups per year.
Ford's plans are not limited to these two vehicles. The company wants to increase production of the Bronco Sport and Maverick by more than 80,000 vehicles and the Transit and Transit-E by 38,000.
