Alphabet has not yet shut down a project that is developing drone delivery. What's more, Wing plans to optimise the network by making drone delivery more flexible.

Here's What We Know

In 2024, Wing will begin rolling out a new logistics network that involves abandoning a central transportation hub. More specifically, initially the hubs themselves will not go anywhere, but drones will not have to visit them.

In Wing's vision, the drones will pick up goods directly from shops and deliver them to customers. To do so, the company would have to think about delivery patterns. In the future, Wing intends to do away with transportation hubs. Special platforms will be set up near shops, where drones will be able to replenish the battery.

This approach is expected to make drone delivery more dynamic. Wing wants the system to be able to handle millions of parcels for millions of customers by mid-2024 at a lower cost compared to delivery by ground transport.
