The Marder boasts a sealed hull made of several varieties of armour plates up to 30mm thick. These protect the front of the BMP from 20mm and 25mm bullets from a distance of 200m and the sides from shrapnel and 7.62mm small arms. The armament comprises a 20mm RH 202 automatic cannon and a 7.62mm MG3 machine gun mounted in tandem. The BMP also has a machine gun on top of the troop compartment.
