Ukraine submits request to Finland for F/A-18 Hornet fighters

The Ukrainian government has submitted a request to Finland to consider deliveries of F/A-18 Hornet fighters to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

The information was shared by Finnish newspaper Helsingin Sanomat, citing its sources. The negotiations will take place in a trilateral format between Ukraine, Finland and the United States. If Finland approves the deliveries, Ukraine will also have to obtain U.S. approval. Since the F/A-18 Hornet is produced by an American company. Incidentally, Finland earlier said that it was ready to consider Ukraine's request for aircraft deliveries.

The F/A-18 Hornet is an American fighter-bomber developed in the 1970s. Today it is the main combat aircraft of the US Navy. It is also in service in some European and Asian countries. The F/A-18 Hornet has participated in military operations against Libya and Iraq and was used in Yugoslavia.

The F/A-18 Hornet can fly higher than 15 km. The combat radius of the aircraft is 720 km. It is equipped with M61A1 20 mm cannon. Also the Hornet has nine points of suspension and is capable of launching AGM-88 HARM and AIM-120 AMRAAM missiles. By the way, the first ones are already in service of the Ukrainian army.
