Nokia is preparing to build a 4G Internet on the Moon. The project will be implemented by the end of this year.

Here's What We Know

Nokia has announced its desire to provide connectivity to the natural satellite of the Earth in 2018. The company will soon send equipment to the moon in collaboration with SpaceX.

The 4G connection will be established between the lunar rover and the Nova-C landing module, which will house the base station. Intuitive Machines is the developer of the module.

A SpaceX rocket will send Nova-C into space. The landing module will then reach the Moon on its own. The infrastructure will be delivered to Shackleton Crater, which is located in the satellite's southern hemisphere.

Nokia wants to prove that terrestrial cellular networks can be used outside our planet. This will allow astronauts to communicate with each other. LTE connectivity is expected to be used in 2025 as part of the Artemis III mission, when humans will land on the moon for the first time since 1972.
