Engineer Ken Pillonel, who has previously added a USB-C port to the AirPods, AirPods Pro and iPhone X, has decided to turn Apple's wireless earbuds into wired ones.

Details

Ken modified the Apple AirPods and added wires and a USB-C port for charging. The resulting gadget may look strange, but it works. What's more, it doesn't need a charging case.

The engineer did this for a reason, as he wanted to raise users' awareness of the fixability of wireless headphones and encourage them to buy wired models to cut down on electronic waste.

The experts at iFixit gave 0 out of 10 to all versions of AirPods and AirPods Pro repairability. Simply put, these are disposable earphones that can't be repaired without breaking them permanently. And as their batteries fail over time - more and more wireless headphones are being sent to waste.
