The Ukrainian Armed Forces have started using the TOS-1A Scorching sunlight heavy flamethrower system, considered the most powerful non-nuclear weapon of the Russian army
The Russian Defence Ministry calls the TOS-1A Solntsepyok (Scorching sunlight) heavy flamethrower system the most powerful non-nuclear weapon. It has now entered service with the Ukrainian Defence Forces.
Here's What We Know
The TOS-1A Scorching sunlight has been in use since the early days of the large-scale invasion of Ukraine. We have written several times about the destruction of heavy flamethrower systems. One of them was captured by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The Ukrainian military has published a video showing the TOS-1A Scorching sunlight. The video was recorded in eastern Ukraine. It is possible that this is the same system that was seized by the Defence Forces last autumn.
The TOS-1A Scorching sunlight is based on the T-72 tank, which is capable of reaching speeds of up to 65km/h. The launcher has two dozen rails for 220mm thermobaric unguided rockets.
