The Ukrainian Armed Forces already use two MIM-104 Patriot PAC-3 air defence systems
Two divisions of the US MIM-104 Patriot PAC-3 air defence systems have been put on combat duty in Ukraine. This was reported by the commander of the Ukrainian Air Force, Oleh Yashchuk.
Here's What We Know
The Ukrainian Defence Minister confirmed on 19 April that the MIM-104 Patriot PAC-3 surface-to-air missile system had arrived in Ukraine from Germany. The day before, the Ukrainian Air Force published the first video of it.
Now it has been officially announced that the second division of MIM-104 Patriot PAC-3 surface-to-air missile systems has been put on combat duty. This probably refers to the air defence system from the Netherlands, the arrival of which in Ukraine was also confirmed by the Ministry of Defence last week.
The MIM-104 Patriot PAC-3 is used to destroy enemy air threats at a maximum distance of 150 km. The anti-missile is capable of shooting down ballistic missiles, but only at ranges up to 60km. The maximum intercept altitude is 40km.
One missile interceptor costs about $3 million, but the price can be much higher when it comes to exports to other countries. A single MIM-104 Patriot division includes up to eight launchers, radar, transport and loaders as well as communications and control vehicles.
