Microsoft has announced that it is discontinuing its own-branded computer accessories.

Details

The company has offered computer mice, keyboards and webcams under the Microsoft brand since 1983, when the manufacturer's first mouse debuted. After 40 years, that long history is coming to an end.

However, that doesn't mean that Microsoft will stop making accessories entirely. Instead, the company will focus on the Surface brand. But Surface products tend to cost more. It remains to be seen whether there will be low-cost products in the range.

"Going forward, we are focusing on our Windows PC accessories portfolio under the Surface brand. We will continue to offer a range of Surface branded PC Accessories — including mice, keyboards, pens, docks, adaptive accessories, and more", explained Microsoft senior communications manager Dan Laycock.

Microsoft-branded accessories will continue to be sold as long as the shops remain stocked.
