Bayraktar Akinci first launched the huge 275kg Cakir rocket, which can reach speeds of 1,040km/h and has a range of 150km
Turkey continues to test various weapons on the Bayraktar Akinci drone. This week, Baykar's drone launched a Cakir missile.
Here's What We Know
The Turkish missile was unveiled just over a year ago. It aims to destroy enemy land and sea targets. The developer is the company Roketsan. The Cakir is equipped with a KTJ-1750 turbojet engine produced by Kale Arge.
The missile weighs 275kg. The weight of the warhead is 70kg. In flight, the Cakir is capable of speeds up to Mach 0.85 (1040 km/h), about 200 km/h less than the speed of sound. The maximum launch range is 150 km.
The tests were announced by Ismail Demir, Head of Defence Industries Directorate. He said the Bayraktar Akinci unmanned aerial vehicle launched a Cakir missile as part of the test, which successfully hit the target.
Baykar is actively testing the drone. About a month ago, Bayraktar Akinci hit a target at a distance of 140 km with the TRG-230-IHA supersonic missile with a maximum launch range of 150 km.
