German chancellor confirms transfer of IRIS-T SLM air defence systems, Leopard tanks, Marder fighting vehicles and other equipment worth $2.95bn to Ukraine

Germany has prepared a new military aid package for Ukraine. The information was confirmed by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz during a joint news conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who arrived in Germany.

Here's What We Know

Olaf Scholz said that the Ukrainian Armed Forces will receive Leopard tanks, Marder infantry fighting vehicles and IRIS-T SLM medium-range air defence systems. The cost of the new military aid package will be €2.7bn ($2.95bn).

Since February 24, 2022, Germany has transferred €17bn ($18.59bn) in aid to Ukraine. According to the German Chancellor, Germany will continue to provide financial, humanitarian, military and economic support.

The full content of the new military aid package has not been officially disclosed yet. Earlier we wrote that it will include 30 Leopard 1 tanks, 20 Marder infantry fighting vehicles, 200 reconnaissance drones, hundreds of transport and logistics support vehicles, and four IRIS-T SLM air defence systems (12 launchers).
