Telly will give away 500,000 dual-screen 4K TVs for free, but one of two displays will show ads all the time
The US startup Telly has prepared an interesting offer for its customers. The company has launched a TV equipped with two displays and is ready to give it away for free, but there is a nuance.
Here's What We Know
To start with, let's note that the TV is equipped with a 55" 4K ULTRA HD display. Underneath it is a built-in sound bar with a webcam, and even below that is the main feature of the novelty - an additional screen.
Telly has decided to give away half a million televisions for free, but the second screen will continuously display advertisements. Through advertising, the company plans to compensate for the zero price. Deliveries will start in the summer and you can apply now.
The startup will collect a lot of sensitive information, including income, geolocation, make of car, any shops and rental property terms. This cannot be waived, and neither can display ads.
About 25 per cent of the additional screen is dedicated to ads. And it works even if the television is switched off. The rest is used for interactive functions and display of useful information. However, advertisements can also use the television's main display, but only when it is not in use for its intended purpose.
The Telly TV runs the Telly OS and supports voice assistant control. To install the usual apps, the device comes with an Android TV set-top box that connects via HDMI connector.
