Ukrainian defence minister shows photo of Su-24 bomber with Storm Shadow cruise missile
The other day Ukraine officially confirmed it was using Storm Shadow cruise missiles. Following this, the first photo of the weapon appeared on the internet.
Here's What We Know
The image was shown by Ukrainian Defence Minister Oleksiy Reznikov during the visit of his British counterpart to Kiev, 24 May. The photo shows the cruise missile carried by an Su-24MR "Yellow 60" bomber of the 7th Tactical Aviation Brigade.
This aircraft was refurbished in 2018. It was originally used for reconnaissance. It is not known how many of these bombers are in service with the AFU.
Flashback
Storm Shadow is a French-British air-to-ground cruise missile. It is developed by the MBDA company. The missile is designed to destroy important targets that are well protected by air defenses. Storm Shadow can be used at any time of day and in adverse weather conditions. It is capable of engaging targets at ranges of up to 1000 km. Ukraine is likely to receive an export version of the missile with an operational range of around 300km.
