Ukrainian aviation receives AlM-9 Sidewinder air-to-air missiles

Following Spain, Canada has also announced a new military aid package for Ukraine.

Here's What We Know

The new package was announced by the Canadian Defence Ministry after another Rammstein meeting on May 25. According to the outcome of the talks, Ukraine will receive 43 AlM-9 Sidewinder aircraft missiles. According to the defence minister, the missiles will help Ukraine secure its skies amid constant Russian strikes. In addition, the AFU will receive 1,000,000 rounds of 5.56 mm ammunition and 4,800 assault rifles.

The AlM-9 Sidewinder is an American guided missile with an infrared air-to-air seeker. The missile entered the US service in 1956. Since then it has received many modifications. The AlM-9 Sidewinder is compatible with many modern fighters, including the F-16, F-15, F-22 Raptor, and F-35 Lightning II. The AFU is likely to use the missiles with Soviet Su-27 and MiG-29 aircraft.
