Ursa Major to develop Arroway rocket propulsion system with 90,000 kg thrust to replace Russian RD engines

We've already written that California-based Ursa Major will build an engine to test hypersonic technology. It will also develop a propulsion system for space launches.

Here's What We Know

The U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory has signed a contract with the company under which Ursa Major will be able to continue developing its Arroway engine. The amount of the agreement was not specified.

The new propulsion system was unveiled last July. It is intended to replace the RD-series engines, which are produced in the Russian Federation.

Arroway is a reusable internal combustion engine that runs on liquid oxygen and methane. It is designed for medium and heavy launch vehicles. It has a thrust of 200,000 pounds (90,000 kg). Arroway firing tests will begin in 2025.
