M109A6 Paladin self-propelled howitzer destroys Russian TOS-1A heavy flamethrower system with 220mm thermobaric rounds
The Ukrainian Armed Forces have destroyed another TOS-1A heavy flamethrower system. It was hit by an M109A6 Paladin self-propelled howitzer.
Here's What We Know
To begin with, the TOS-1A uses 220mm thermobaric unguided rockets. The heavy flamethrower system can engage targets up to 6,000 meters away. The launcher is mounted on the T-72A tank chassis.
The M109A6 Paladin is a modification of the M109 self-propelled 155m howitzer. It was created under the HIP program. Production began in 1990 and two years later the howitzer was adopted by the US Army.
The artillery unit is equipped with a 39 calibre M284 cannon. It is mounted on the M182 tracked chassis. Its maximum range is 24 / 30 km depending on the type of ammunition. In addition to the M284 gun, the M109A6 Paladin also carries a 12.7 mm M2 machine gun.
