Here's What We Know
This statement was made by the Ukrainian ambassador to Australia, Vasyl Miroshnychenko. Deutsche Welle reported about it, citing the international agency AFP. According to the source, only 12-16 F/A-18 Hornets are in working condition.
Earlier it was reported that Australia might provide Ukraine with 41 aircraft. The Royal Air Force will replace them with fifth-generation F-35A Lightning II fighters. The decommissioned F/A-18s may be sold to RAVN Aerospace, which will use them for training.
The "fighter coalition" for Ukraine now includes Britain, Denmark, Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Sweden, Portugal and Poland. They are ready to start training F-16s in the near future. There is also talk of training on the Gripen and Eurofighter Typhoon.
