The Japanese company Nidec is one of the largest suppliers of electric motors for hard drives and other drives. It decided to set up a company in the US to produce propulsion systems for electric aircraft.

Here's What We Know

Nidec will form a joint venture with Brazilian giant Embraer to produce electric motors. The Japanese company intends to invest at least $141 million over five years and will control 51% of the shares. In addition, it wants to start producing electric propulsion systems in Mexico.

The US plant will appear in Missouri, where Eve Air Mobility, a subsidiary of Embraer, will deploy its operations. In three years' time, it will be able to provide passenger transport by air taxi in San Francisco.

It is Eve Air Mobility that will be the first customer of the joint venture between Nidec and Embraer. The Japanese and Brazilian companies have set a target of $1 billion in electric-engine sales by the end of this decade.
