PlayStation 3 exclusive Metal Gear Solid 4 once worked great on Xbox 360 and could even be released for that console
Recently, thanks to Ryan Payton, assistant producer of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, it became known that the game "ran beautifully and smoothly" on Xbox 360, as written in the book "The Ultimate History of Video Games Vol 2" by Stephen L. Kent.
Here's What We Know
In his interview for this book, Payton stated that there was no exclusive agreement that the game should be released only on PlayStation 3, and the decision was to choose the disc format used in Microsoft's console. Konami set up a team to check the feasibility of porting the game to the Xbox 360. Most of the developers, although depressed about working on the PlayStation 3, remained loyal to Sony and did not want to spend resources on such a test, as Payton explained.
However, at one meeting organised by Konami's R&D team, it turned out that Metal Gear Solid 4 ran perfectly and smoothly on the Xbox 360. But despite these technical possibilities, physically, the release was very impractical, as PlayStation 3 games were released on BD-ROM discs with a large amount of storage, while Xbox 360 still used DVD-ROMs with a smaller capacity. This meant that several discs would have to be used to port Metal Gear Solid 4 to the Xbox 360, which Konami was not happy with.
These facts have been confirmed by Sony's Jack Tretton, who previously stated that Metal Gear Solid 4 is exclusive to PS3 thanks in part to Blu-ray.
