The Belgian company FN Herstal is the manufacturer of the 7.62mm machine guns. The deal is worth €111 million ($121 million). The number of machine guns is not specified.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces already use the FN MAG along with the US version of the M240. The machine gun is designed for armoured vehicles and infantry units. It is in service with more than eight dozen countries.

The first FN MAG was produced in 1958. In just 65 years, some 200,000 machine guns rolled off the assembly line. The weapon weighed almost 11 kg, measured 1.26 m long, 11.87 cm wide and 26.3 mm high. The FN MAG shoots 600-100 rounds, has a maximum range of 1.8 km and a sighting range of 1.2 km.
