The other day we wrote that Ukraine would receive two IRIS-T SLM surface-to-air missile systems from Germany this year. As it turned out, Germany will also transfer a new batch of Gepard self-propelled air defence systems to the AFU.

Here's What We Know

This was announced by the German Defence Minister in an interview with the German publication Welt. We are talking about 45 anti-aircraft tanks. The project is planned to be implemented jointly with the USA. Deliveries of anti-aircraft guns are planned for this year. Incidentally, Ukraine currently has 34 such units in service. The AFU uses them to counter UAVs.

Flashback

The Gepard is a self-propelled air defense gun designed to protect ground troops, destroy air targets at slanting ranges of 100 to 4 kilometers and at altitudes of up to 3 kilometers, flying at 350-400 meters/second, and surface and surface targets at ranges of up to 4500 meters. The Gepard is built on a Leopard tank chassis. The unit has been produced by Krauss-Maffei since mid-70s.
