First results: Final Fantasy XVI sales exceed 3 million copies a week after release

The launch of Final Fantasy XVI has been revealed.

According to Japanese portal Gamer, Square Enix has sold more than 3 million copies of Final Fantasy XVI since its release date (June 22). These statistics include both digital versions and physical editions.

Interestingly, the new installment of the game is significantly behind Final Fantasy XV in terms of sales. The previous game sold 5 million copies in the same period. Apparently,the developers' fears of weak pre-orders were not unfounded.

It is not clear what is the reason for the low sales, as Final Fantasy XVI was highly praised by users and critics. Perhaps the main factor was the exclusivity of the game on PlayStation 5.
