USS Carl M. Levin (DDG 120) Arleigh Burke class destroyer

The US Navy has received the destroyer USS Carl M. Levin (DDG 120). It is the 70th Arleigh Burke-class destroyer and the fifth Flight IIA: Technology Insertion-class ship.

Here's What We Know

The US Navy held the ceremony at the Naval Base in Baltimore, Maryland. The destroyer is the first US ship to be named after the Senator from Michigan. USS Carl M. Levin (DDG 120), like other Arleigh Burke-class ships, will form the backbone of the US Navy's surface fleet.

The Arleigh Burke destroyers are equipped with two vertical launch systems for Standard Missile 2, Standard Missile 3, Standard Missile 6, ESSM and Tomahawk missiles. They also carry a 127mm artillery system, 25mm mortars and 12.7mm machine guns.

Arleigh Burk class ships can optionally carry Harpoon anti-ship missiles and the Mark 15 Phalanx CIWS module. Sikorsky MH-60R Seahawk helicopters can be deployed on the deck of the destroyer.
