Ukraine has a high chance of getting ATACMS ballistic missiles with a launch range of up to 300 km
The Ukrainian Armed Forces may receive US ATACMS ballistic missiles. This was stated by Senator James Risch in an interview with Voice of America.
Here's What We Know
Ukraine has been asking for long-range ATACMS missiles since last summer, when it received the first M142 HIMARS. The ballistic missiles will allow striking Russian military targets at distances of up to 300km. With ATACMS, the Ukrainian Armed Forces will be able to disrupt enemy logistics much more effectively than they do now with GMLRS with a launch range of up to 80km.
Senator James Risch, who chairs the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, called the probability of transferring tactical ballistic missiles to Ukraine high. He added that ATACMS was a good weapon, which Ukraine should receive as soon as possible.
The senator had earlier advocated handing over to Ukraine "everything that can fire", any weapons, including ATACMS and the fourth generation F-16 Fighting Falcon fighters. The only exception is nuclear weapons. That said, James Risch acknowledged that it would take time to prepare.
The pressure on President Joe Biden (Joe Biden) continues. This month, the U.S. House Committee on Armed Services called for at least $80 million to be used to buy ATACMS missiles for the Ukrainian Armed Forces in fiscal year 2024.
