Apple has added the original 12-inch MacBook to its list of obsolete products.

Details

The laptop was introduced in March 2015. Priced from $1,299, it gets a 1.1GHz dual-core Intel Core M processor, integrated Intel HD 5300 graphics, 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD. Incidentally, this is also the first MacBook with the infamous butterfly keyboard. Users have repeatedly complained and even sued Apple over this keyboard: over time it stopped working properly because of dust and debris inside. As a result, it was removed from the entire MacBook range.

The original 12-inch MacBook was discontinued in April 2016, following the release of a second-generation model with improved features. Apple last updated the 12-inch MacBook in June 2017, before phasing out models with 12-inch screens in 2019.

Being on the list of obsolete products means that the laptop is no longer repairable or serviceable in Apple shops and authorised service centres.
