B-52H Stratofortress nuclear bombers return to the Republic of Korea for exercises with F-35A, F-16, F-15E and KF-16 fighters
Last week, several US Air Force B-52H nuclear bombers took part in an exercise and flew over the Korean peninsula. This is another show of force aimed at deterring the DPRK.
Here's What We Know
The B-52H Stratofortress bombers flew accompanied by F-35A, KF-16 South Korean Air Force and F-16, F-15E US Air Force fighters. This was reported by the Asian country's defence ministry.
The B-52Hs arrived from Barksdale, Louisiana, US Air Force base. It is noted that they are not part of the operational bomber group, which arrived in the region from Minot, North Dakota.
This was the seventh exercise in the Republic of Korea involving strategic bombers since 2023. The B-1B Lancer flew over the peninsula on 1 and 19 February and 13 and 19 March. B-52Hs took part in the exercise on 15 March and 14 April.
Meanwhile, the Pentagon wants to send an Ohio-class nuclear-powered submarine equipped with Trident missiles with nuclear warheads to the Republic of Korea. The last time such subs were in the country was 42 years ago. It is possible that the pause will be broken on July 27, 2023.
