The US Air Force has launched an investigation into a mechanical malfunction aboard the fifth-generation F-35 Lightning II fighter while in flight

In mid-June 2023, the pilot of one of the US Air Force's F-35A Lightning II fighter jets encountered a mechanical malfunction. The service decided to investigate the cause.

The incident occurred at noon on June 15. The pilot radioed code 7700 to the control room. This means an emergency situation in the air. The pilot circled counterclockwise over northwest Phoenix before landing at Luke Air Force Base.

It was assumed that the malfunction would fix itself. When it didn't, the pilot returned to the airbase where experts could examine the cause of the malfunction in more detail. Sean Clements of the 56th Fighter Wing said.

The US Air Force decided to launch an investigation to find out the nature of the malfunction and how it affected the aircraft. That said, according to FllighRadar24, the fighter jet has made several flights since then. In particular, it flew to Fort Worth, Texas, last Thursday. This is where the Lockheed Martin plant is located, where the F-35 aircraft are being built.
