Lighthouse Games, the new studio of the Playground Games founder, has received a significant investment from China's Tencent
Last year, the founder and former head of Playground Games, Gavin Raeburn, left the studio and founded a new one, Lighthouse Games. Currently, the studio is at the initial stage of its existence, but it has made another big step forward by receiving a significant investment from Tencent.
Here's What We Know
Reburn also assured that despite this investment, Lighthouse Games will retain full control over its creative decisions:
"The investment is financial, and we retain control over our game and destiny as a studio, though we are also looking forward to forging strong links with Tencent. We’ve always prided ourselves on building excellent and trusted relationships with the publishers that we work with, and this will continue to be a priority moving forward. Our goal is to be the best at everything we do, and Tencent’s investment along with their continued support, will enable us to fulfil that ambition"."
Although the specific amount of the investment was not disclosed, Reburn said that Lighthouse was in talks with "several publishers" but decided to work with Tencent because it was "a deal that really fit the vision".
It was also noted that the scale of the investment from Tencent will allow Lighthouse Games to expand its team and develop its game from scratch, without using outdated technologies or architecture.
