Brazil may buy new Chinese PCL-181 howitzers with wheeled chassis and a range of up to 53 km
Brazil's defence forces may arm themselves with Chinese artillery systems. The South American country is considering the purchase of PCL-181 self-propelled howitzers.
Here's What We Know
Last month, a Brazilian delegation visited China, where they talked to representatives of the defence industry. The army representatives visited the Norinco factory, which manufactures the PCL-181 howitzers.
In addition, the delegation visited the Artillery Institute of the Chinese Army. The visit concluded with a demonstration of the Sky Dragon 50 GAS2 medium-range air defence system.
PCL-181 is a self-propelled artillery unit on Shaanxi 8x8 wheeled chassis. It was developed by Norinco in 2017. The howitzer has a 155mm barrel and a digital fire control system.
The PCL-181 can fire up to six rounds per minute. The range of conventional projectiles is up to 20 km. The howitzer can hit targets at ranges up to 53 km with active rocket launchers.
