Fear of fire and bending backwards: the foldable Pixel Fold smartphone fails the durability test with a bang
Google unveiled its first foldable smartphone, the Pixel Fold, in May, but only recently opened sales. The gadget has been the subject of interest from blogger JerryRigEverything, who has been testing the smartphone with his traditional "bloodthirsty" methods.
What this time
The tests revealed that the Pixel Fold is, unfortunately, a rather flimsy phone. Its internal screen has a plastic protective film on top of ultra-thin glass, which is very easy to scratch. The situation is different with the outer screen, as it's protected by glass, so it's more resistant to damage and scratches.
In addition, the flexible display is afraid of fire: when exposed to an open flame, it lasted only 8 seconds. In this case, the smartphone shut down, and after a while it issued a warning about automatic shutdown due to the strong heat.
But the Pixel Fold is even more afraid of being bent. Its case practically bent backwards, after which it was no longer possible to fold it properly.
