Impressive debut: Final Fantasy XVI sold more than 330,000 copies in Japan in its first week - a remarkable result for a single console exclusive
Final Fantasy 16, despite being a PlayStation 5 exclusive, has performed well both globally and in its home market of Japan, with the game being the clear leader with over 330,000 copies sold in its first week of release, and an expectedly lower second week with just 37,000 copies and second place in the top spot. This reflects a 90% drop in sales compared to the previous week, according to Famitsu.
What we know.
This week's leader is Spike Chunsoft's adventure title Master Detective Archives: Rain Code, which sold over 55,000 copies on its debut. Several other new releases also made it into the Top 10, including Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective, which sold over 8,000 copies on Nintendo Switch.
On the hardware side, PS5 sales suffered a nearly 50% decline compared to last week's 49,000 units. Meanwhile, the Nintendo Switch continues to hold its own, with sales of over 106,000 units.
