Hitman developer IO Interactive opens new studio in Brighton, UK
IO Interactive, best known for developing the Hitman series, is expanding its presence in the video game market with the opening of a new studio in Brighton, UK. This new team becomes the developer's fifth studio, joining its Copenhagen headquarters, Malmö studio (opened in 2019), Barcelona studio (opened in 2021) and Istanbul studio (opened earlier this year).
What we know.
IOI Brighton already has a small team in place, which sets it apart from previous new developer studios that have started from scratch. Currently, the Brighton-based team is working on Project Fantasy, an exclusive online fantasy game for Xbox, which was officially confirmed this year.
Of course, IOI Brighton will be gradually growing its team in the coming months, recruiting more talent and starting work on the James Bond game known as Project 007.
IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak tells GameIndustry:
"The studio is for all projects. We are working a bit differently compared to other companies. They’re more like ‘this studio is working on this project’ or ‘this studio is doing some elements of this project’. Across our studios, our projects are front and centre. Which means anybody, regardless of what studio or country they’re working from, they can work criss-cross on different projects. It’s not like in Istanbul they’re on 007, and in Brighton they’re only doing Project Fantasy… they can all work on the different projects. "
Abrak also said that IO Interactive plans to continue to expand and is on track to increase the total number of employees across all five studios to more than 400 over the next 18 months. Currently, the total number of employees exceeds 300.
