The latest test build of Windows 11 has updated emojis that Microsoft announced back in 2021

Microsoft has fully unveiled new emojis that will replace the outdated flat design. After several years of development, the new three-dimensional emojis will be available with the Windows Insider Preview Build (25905) update.

The new emojis look similar to the ones that were released in Microsoft Teams last year, but now they have a gradient style that gives them a realistic 3D look. Developers have been working on this project since the official announcement in the summer of 2021, but the final implementation of 3D emails was delayed until Windows 11.

Microsoft explained that the new COLRv1 font format in Windows 11 allows the system to display "richer emojis with a 3D-like look". In addition to supporting the new emojis in Windows 11, Microsoft plans to make them available in some apps and browsers.

To try out the new 3D emojis, users will need to join the Windows Insider programme and get the latest build. Those already in the programme can get the update via Windows Update or download the latest ISO from Microsoft. Updates will be available for those on the Canary Channel.
