CMA postpones final decision on Microsoft and Activision Blizzard deal to August 29
Microsoft recently got rid of a major obstacle to its acquisition of Activision Blizzard in the form of the FTC, after which the UK Competition and Markets Authority agreed to suspend the litigation and start negotiations. However, the process will take a little longer than Microsoft would like.
Here's What We Know
Previously, the CMA was supposed to make a final decision on the proposed deal by 18 July, but this decision was delayed. The regulator said that there was "insufficient time" to fully consider Microsoft's submission on the proposed order, so the investigation team decided to extend the deadline by six weeks.
The new deadline for the CMA's final decision is now set for 29 August, but the regulator is committed to completing its duties as quickly as possible and before that date.
The CMA also said that its negotiations with Microsoft are still at an early stage and that if the company proposes a restructured deal during the negotiations, it could lead to a new merger investigation.
