Back in May, the American company Telly announced that it would be giving away 4K TVs for free. At the time, many people didn't believe such generosity, but now Telly has announced that it has started shipping the TVs.

Details

We are talking about 55-inch TVs with 4K resolution. So why are they free? It's simple: these devices show adverts that can't be switched off. Unlike traditional models, Telly TVs consist of two parts. On the big screen, you watch films, series and shows, while a smaller secondary screen shows adverts.

Users also have to sacrifice some of their privacy and consent to data collection. This will then be used by advertisers and TV content creators.

The Telly system doesn't allow you to install any streaming apps, but it does come with Google TV. You can also use Telly with a Roku, Amazon Fire Stick or Apple TV device.

The list of people who want a free TV is growing. Meanwhile, the company is promising to deliver 500 free devices by the end of this year and "millions" in 2024.
