The Belgian company John Cockerill has been awarded a contract to modernise M113 armoured personnel carriers for Ukraine. Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg will give them to the AFU.

Here's What We Know

The company John Cockerill specialises in the modernisation of military equipment of calibre from 25 to 120 mm. M113s for the AFU are likely to receive new combat modules. It is not yet known exactly what these modules will be, but in the arsenal of John Cockerill there is a remote control module Cockerill 1030 with 30 mm cannon, as well as a lighter turret with 25/30 mm cannons and 12.7/7.62 mm machine guns.

Flashback

The M113 is a tracked armoured personnel carrier in service with the mechanised forces of the US Army and other armies around the world. It was developed between 1957 and 1959 by the British company BAE Systems. In total, there are about 80,000 such vehicles in the world. The APC has many modifications. Ukraine has received hundreds of M113s from its partners.
