The U.S. Air Force will inspect 99 T-6 Texan IIs after a severe storm damaged at least 12 training aircraft in Oklahoma
The US Air Force intends to inspect all T-6 Texan II training aircraft deployed at Vance, Oklahoma. The reason was the recent storm.
Here's What We Know
There are 99 aircraft at the military base in Oklahoma. 12 of them were damaged by the storm that hit the state on 21 July. Winds of over 100 kilometres per hour ripped the protective covers off the planes, allowing debris to enter the engines.
The US Air Force is facing a shortage of pilots. To address the problem, the service is pushing to graduate about 1,500 new pilots in fiscal year 2023. However, the storm has forced Vance base officials to put training on pause for at least two weeks.
At least 12 of Oklahoma's 99 T-6 Texan II aircraft were damaged and now cannot fly until they undergo major repairs. As a precautionary measure, the decision was made to have all of the aircraft checked out at the base. They are expected to be able to return to normal operations on 4 August.
