The remaining fifth-generation F-22 Raptor fighters from Tyndall, which was destroyed by Hurricane Michael, are moving to Virginia
The US Air Force is completing the transfer of fifth-generation F-22 Raptor fighters from Tyndall, Florida, to Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia.
Here's What We Know
5 years ago, Florida was hit by Hurricane Michael. The Category 5 storm severely damaged the Tyndall infrastructure, forcing the US Air Force to self-destruct part of the military base.
Three years later, the service approved the decision to relocate the F-22 Raptor to Joint Base Langley-Justis. Tyndall's press office released photos of the fifth-generation fighters preparing to fly to Virginia.
After the hurricane, pilots and support personnel were sent to Eglin Air Force Base, Florida. In the spring of 2023, the U.S. Air Force began moving the F-22 Raptor to Joint Base Langley-Justis. All personnel and aircraft are expected to arrive in Virginia by September.
